Childrens Hospital Los Angeles dedicated its research center as the Saban Research Institute after a $40 million donation last month by television magnate Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl. The institute, which includes a new 88,500-square-foot, state-of-the art research laboratory, conducts research on childhood cancer and gene therapy. Officials at the 286-bed hospital called the donation the largest single gift of its kind to a children's hospital in North America. -- by Laura B. Benko
