Premier, San Diego, named Susan DeVore president of its newly integrated supply chain and group purchasing services, Premier Purchasing Partners. She replaces Howard Sanders, who resigned as senior vice president of purchasing in March. The 1,500-hospital alliance has been consolidating services as part of a large-scale reorganization. In the past year, the group has endured a year of Senate hearings, antitrust issues, vendor complaints and membership changes. DeVore spent 17 years at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young as a healthcare management consultant. She previously was director of finance at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, N.C., which later was bought by Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte. DeVore's "appointment launches the next phase of Premier's ongoing efforts to strategically focus the alliance on core services that meet the needs of its not-for-profit hospital members," Premier said. Last year, the alliance lost 15-hospital St. Joseph's Health System, Orange, Calif., to rival MedAssets. And in March, it lost two-hospital Christiana Care Health System, Wilmington, Del., to MedAssets and 11-hospital Carondelet Health System, St. Louis, to Consorta. -- by Laura B. Benko
