The award, co-sponsored by the Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, is the newest in a series of recognition programs sponsored in whole or in part by Modern Healthcare.
Our other recognition programs include: the Design Awards; the Health Care Hall of Fame; 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare; 100 Top Hospitals; the Spirit of Excellence Awards; Trustee of the Year; Up & Comers; and Young Executive of the Year. Information about all of the programs can be found on our Web site, modernhealthcare.com.
In January, Modern Healthcare and HIMSS enlisted the aid of a number of healthcare information technology experts to design the CEO IT Achievement Award and the criteria upon which the award is based. The members of the advisory group are recognized on p. 18. The CEOs of the healthcare organizations represented by members of the advisory group were ineligible for the award.
Modern Healthcare and HIMSS announced the competition on Feb. 10 at the 2003 HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Diego. A total of 51 nominations were received by the March 17 deadline. A panel of judges made the selections after a four-week review. The panel included three healthcare CEOs, selected by Modern Healthcare, and three healthcare chief information officers, selected by HIMSS. The judges are identified on p. 18. The CEO judges and the CEOs of the healthcare organizations represented by the CIO judges were ineligible for the award.
Modern Healthcare and HIMSS announced the two winners on April 21 (p. 17). A complete list of the applicants appears on p. 20. We thank them for their participation.
Two former Modern Healthcare reporters, who both specialize in healthcare information technology reporting, wrote the profiles that appear in this special supplement.
