Lake Hospital System said it plans to build a $50 million replacement hospital for 374-bed LakeEast Hospital, Painesville, Ohio, five miles outside the city in Concord Township. The hospital would open in five years to seven years, spokeswoman Julieann Strogin said. A committee has been formed to study alternative uses for the current facility. The healthcare system will continue to offer ambulatory care in Painesville, Strogin said. In a written statement, system President and CEO Cynthia Moore-Hardy said it would cost as much to renovate the current facility as it would to build the new hospital. The system also operates LakeWest Hospital, Willoughby, Ohio. -- by Mark Taylor
