Tennessee received court permission to liquidate three malpractice insurers affiliated with Reciprocal of America, Glen Allen, Va., which was seized by Virginia in January after posting an $88 million loss in 2001. Reciprocal, which covers hospitals and physicians in 40 states, faces a liquidation hearing June 19. Its debt is now estimated at about $210 million. The hearing could determine how much, if any, money will be available to pay open claims at the Tennessee affiliates--American National Lawyers Insurance Reciprocal, Doctors Insurance Reciprocal and Reciprocal Alliance. -- by Michael Romano
