Healthcare privacy technology company HIPAAdocs Corp., Columbia, Md., is expanding its product line into other practice services under a new parent organization.
HIPAAdocs announced the formation of the new company, Certimys Solutions, on Monday. HIPAAdocs will remain a separate entity under the Certimys umbrella, company officials say.
"We're going to be offering non-HIPAA solutions to the same customer base," which includes large and small medical groups, long-term care facilities and other nonhospital organizations, says HIPAAdocs founder Lewis Lorton.
Lorton, an informaticist who describes himself as a "recovering dentist," says that Certimys will be selling software for coding, charge capture and risk assessment, as well as offering other services such as scanning computer networks for potential vulnerability to viruses and hacking, running background checks on job applicants and starting up a bookstore and online university.
Like HIPAAdocs, the new company will market its products through the AMA, Medical Group Management Association and other associations that serve healthcare providers.
"We want to provide things to their members through economies of scale," Lorton says.
