Seton Healthcare Network, Austin, Texas, will move forward with plans to relocate Children's Hospital off the campus of 322-bed Brackenridge Hospital, Austin, and make it a privately owned facility at a new medical center. Responding to concerns of some City Council members, Seton said it remains committed to Brackenridge and will invest in the larger facility once Children's relocates in 2007. Seton operates both hospitals under lease agreements with the city but will own the new children's hospital, expected to have 164 beds. The new medical center also will include a separately funded 100,000-square-foot medical office building. The first phase of the project will cost about $175 million, but the total cost hasn't been calculated, a Seton spokesman said. The spokesman said Brackenridge also will benefit from the move because it will be able to expand capacity and add some profitable specialty areas. -- by Michael Romano
