HHS released quality data on home health agencies in eight states, the first phase of a program to make such data available on all Medicare-certified home health agencies in the nation by late fall. The program includes 11 quality measures related to patients' ability to get around and perform basic activities, mental health status and care in medical emergencies. Like a similar initiative for nursing homes, Medicare's Home Health Compare program is available at www.medicare.gov. The eight initial states are Florida, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin. In the future, HHS plans to track and publish quality data on other sectors of the healthcare industry, including hospitals and doctors. -- by Tony Fong
