Jane Henney, who was commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration during the last years of the Clinton administration, will take over the top job at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in July. Henney, 56, succeeds Donald Harrison, who retired in December. ... Mark Ganz has been promoted to president and COO of Portland, Ore.-based Regence Group, effective May 1. Ganz, 42, replaces Jed Pitcher, who is retiring at year-end. Regence owns Blues plans in Oregon, where Ganz has worked as president; Idaho; Utah; and Washington. ... Pediatrix Medical Group, Sunrise, Fla., said its president and CEO, Kris Bratberg, 40, resigned for personal reasons and was replaced by Pediatrix founder and Chairman Roger Medel, who had held the post until last year, when Bratberg took over. A Pediatrix spokesman said Bratberg's departure was unrelated to an ongoing Federal Trade Commission investigation of its 2001 purchase of Magella Healthcare Corp., Dallas. ... John Duval, who has a long track record in academic healthcare, will take the reins as CEO of Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, Richmond, June 2. Duval, 50, currently COO of University Medical Center, Tucson, will replace interim CEO William Kerr, an executive of the Hunter Group. ... Derrick Hollings has been appointed CFO of Howard University Hospital in Washington, replacing Joel Celestin, who retired. Hollings, 46, had been president and CEO of Boston-based RequestHealth Corp., a firm that had developed products for online patient services. ... Odin Anderson, a health policy academic who helped establish the Center for Health Administration Studies at the University of Chicago, died recently at age 88. Gary Mecklenburg, who was a student of Anderson's and is now president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in Chicago, called Anderson a "giant in medical sociology, comparative healthcare systems and health services research."
