Tenet Healthcare Corp. says it has received a subpoena from the HHS Office of the Inspector General seeking information about its agreements with a physician group on the West Coast.
The Santa Barbara-based company says the subpoena identifies a group named The Women's Cancer Center and 10 individual physicians who are or were part of that group. The group is affiliated with Tenet hospitals in California and Nevada, the company says in a release from Thursday.
"Civil subpoenas for information from the OIG are not uncommon in the highly regulated health care industry, and we will cooperate fully so that the agency may complete its inquiry in a timely fashion," says Christi Sulzbach, Tenet's chief corporate officer and general counsel, in the release.
Tenet recently changed its billing methods for Medicare outlier payments for more costly inpatients after federal officials announced it will audit outliers.
