Ralph Muller, former president and CEO of the University of Chicago Hospitals & Health System, will take over as CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, on July 1. Muller, 57, will succeed Robert Martin, who earlier this year announced his intent to step down. Since 2002, Muller has served as director of Stockamp & Associates, a firm that specializes in helping not-for-profit healthcare organizations improve revenue and patient care. Most recently, he led a comparative study of U.S. and British healthcare systems for the King's Fund, London. Muller ran the University of Chicago health system for 15 years beginning in 1986. In May 2001, he was named to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. He is a former chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges. -- by Cinda Becker
