Supplier-backed Global Healthcare Exchange, Westminster, Colo., forged an alliance with MedAssets, Alpharetta, Ga., and now has business relationships with most major hospital group purchasing organizations, accounting for more than 85% of GPO purchasing volume in the U.S. Under the agreement, MedAsset's 2,200 hospital customers will be able to buy products through GHX's Internet-based exchange. Financial terms were not disclosed. In December 2002, GHX merged with Medibuy, a hospital-backed exchange in which the biggest stakeholders were Premier and HCA. GHX also has relationships with AmeriNet, Broadlane and Neoforma, the e-commerce partner of Novation. -- by Cinda Becker
