Pediatrix Medical Group, Sunrise, Fla., said its president and CEO, Kris Bratberg, 40, resigned for personal reasons and was replaced by Pediatrix founder and Chairman Roger Medel. Bratberg became president of Pediatrix in 2000 and CEO this January. A Pediatrix spokesman said Bratberg's departure was unrelated to an ongoing Federal Trade Commission investigation of Pediatrix's 2001 purchase of Magella Healthcare Corp., Dallas. Medel, a physician, was CEO from 1979 through 2002 and will begin a new three-year contract. Pediatrix said its board expects to appoint a non-executive chairman. The company, which provides neonatal and perinatal physicians on contract, earned $68.8 million on $465.5 million in revenue in 2002. -- by Julie Piotrowski
