SunLink Health Systems, Atlanta, said it has taken over management of two hospitals it expects to acquire in its purchase of HealthMont, Franklin, Tenn. SunLink has extended its offer, now valued at $16 million, until June 30. SunLink also said HealthMont has sold 33-bed Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital, San Benito, Texas, which SunLink was not interested in buying. SunLink provided no details about the sale. HealthMont CEO Timothy Hill could not be reached for comment. SunLink would have eight hospitals after acquiring HealthMont's two. In other news, Community Health Systems, Brentwood, Tenn., is scheduled to become part of Standard & Poor's MidCap 400 Index on March 31, S&P said. The rural hospital chain's addition to the index is contingent on shareholders of Dole Food Co., Westlake Village, Calif., approving a buyout by David Murdock, the company's chairman and CEO, at a shareholder meeting tomorrow. Community Health's shares will continue to be traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The company owns or operates 70 hospitals. -- by Vince Galloro
