Triad Hospitals, Plano, Texas, said that CFO Burke Whitman was called up for temporary active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. Whitman, 47, will participate in assignments in the Iraq conflict and related operations, Triad said. Whitman's call-up order did not say how long he may be deployed, Triad spokeswoman Patricia Ball said. Other executives, including Chairman and CEO James Shelton, will pick up Whitman's duties during his absence. Also, Michael Mullins, 39, CEO of Triad's Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Ind., has reported for active duty with a U.S. Navy hospital in Bremerton, Wash., Ball said. Triad expects "no significant impact to our day-to-day operations" as a result of the absences, Shelton said in a news release. Triad owns or operates 48 hospitals. -- by Vince Galloro
