Leesburg (Fla.) Regional Medical Center has agreed to pay $1.4 million to resolve allegations of Medicare fraud under a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department. In a civil lawsuit filed in 1996, the 425-bed hospital was accused of upcoding pneumonia diagnosis codes to increase reimbursement. The hospital also entered into a corporate compliance agreement with HHS. It did not admit guilt in the settlement. -- by Patrick Reilly
