Healthcare information technology vendors and consultants say the biggest priority of their provider clients now and during the next two years is integration of multiple information systems, according to a survey released by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Computer applications that allow clinical information-sharing across a healthcare network were considered the most important for their clients during the next two years. The IT vendors and consultants also said the top barrier to implementing information technology was difficulty in proving return on investment and quantifiable benefits. The poll of 117 IT vendor, supplier and consultant organizations was the second in a series of four targeted surveys conducted by Chicago-based HIMSS earlier this year. -- by John Morrissey
