UPMC Health System, Pittsburgh, said it will shut down the obstetrics unit at 199-bed UPMC Passavant, Pittsburgh, on March 28 because of a declining birth rate and will consolidate its birthing services with other UPMC area hospitals. Passavant's obstetrics unit is the third to close in Pittsburgh's Allegheny County since December 2000. -- by Julie Piotrowski
