Universal Health Services, King of Prussia, Pa., replaced Chief Financial Officer Kirk Gorman last week because of what Gorman said was a "philosophical difference" with the company's auditor, KPMG.
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President Alan Miller said KPMG disagreed with Gorman regarding "respective responsibilities and the level of expertise required" of a CFO. He said there was no question about the integrity of the company's financial statements. Controller Steve Filton was named interim CFO.
For the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, UHS earned $43.9 million, or 69 cents per share, compared with $927,000, or 2 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.
