HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has named Carolyn Clancy its new director following her 10-month stint as acting director. In her position Clancy, a physician, will oversee healthcare outcomes and quality research and work with the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an independent group of experts, on primary-care and prevention issues, HHS said. "Carolyn Clancy's long history with the AHRQ and her medical and research expertise provide the right balance to lead this vital agency," HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson said in a written statement. -- by Jeff Tieman
