Orlando (Fla.) Regional Healthcare System is reshuffling its executive team to give CEO John Hillenmeyer more time for day-to-day operations. Abe Lopman is stepping down as vice president and executive director at Orlando Regional Medical Center to take a new position working on specialized productivity and cost-management projects for the eight-hospital system. Sherrie Sitarik, vice president and executive director of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women, will replace Lopman in the new position of executive vice president overseeing the medical center and its ambulatory-care center, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando, and Orlando Regional Lucerne Hospital. ... George Zara, 53, president and CEO of Kansas City, Mo.-based Carondelet Health, is heading west to take over the top spot at St. Anthony Hospitals in Denver. Zara's job change comes about six months after the announcement that parent Carondelet Health System, the St. Louis-based not-for-profit Catholic health system, would merge eight of its nine acute-care hospitals into giant Ascension Health by year-end. ... After leading All Children's Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., for three decades, J. Dennis Sexton, 60, has announced his retirement as president and CEO effective Jan. 3, 2003. Gary Carnes, previously executive vice president and COO of the hospital, will take over. ... Baylor Medical Center at Irving (Texas) named Jim Thaxton, its interim president since June, to the permanent position. Thaxton previously was senior vice president of managed-care contracting at the 226-bed hospital's parent, Baylor Health Care System. He succeeds Michael O'Keefe, who resigned earlier this year. ... J. Brian Hancock, M.D., has been named president-elect of the 22,000-member American College of Emergency Physicians, Dallas. Hancock has practiced emergency medicine at 268-bed Saint Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, Mich., for nearly two decades.
