The Health Research and Educational Trust on Thursday created a new national organization whose goal is to improve healthcare in communities.
The organization, the Association for Community Health Improvement, will draw membership from two national demonstration projects and one national coalition that are closing by year-end. "ACHI could develop into a resource for any individual or organization concerned about making communities healthier and stronger," said Mary Pittman, president of the Health Research and Educational Trust.
Membership will come from the Community Care Network Demonstration Program, which was spearheaded by the American Hospital Association and HRET. ACHI also is tapping members from the Healthcare Forum Foundation's National Outcomes Network and the Coalition for Healthier Cities and Communities.
ACHI will pick up the work of the three programs and give community leaders a resource for practical and educational tools, Pittman said. -- by Patrick Reilly
