Healthcare accrediting group URAC, Washington, said it is using a $50,000, nine-month grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to evaluate how utilization management can be used to improve patient safety. In a news release, the group said it plans to examine the optimal use of utilization management software and catalog how utilization management companies follow up on patient safety problems. Research began in August. URAC said it would present its findings to a leadership panel of utilization management and patient safety experts.
