Alegent Health, Omaha, Neb., said it will team up with Siemens AG to build a $64 million, 77-bed "digital" hospital in its corporate hometown as part of a long-term partnership with the company. Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital, scheduled for completion in 2004, will incorporate the patient-focused Planetree concept of care. In addition, the eight-hospital system has committed to purchasing $150 million in clinical-care information technology products and other services from Siemens over the next 10 years. Siemens also is managing HealthSouth Corp.'s $240 million, 219-bed "hospital of the future" project in Birmingham, Ala. -- by Julie Piotrowski
