MedQuist, Marlton, N.J., which provides medical-transcription services to 3,200 clients nationwide, will acquire Lanier Healthcare, Atlanta, for undisclosed terms. The deal is expected to close by July 1. Lanier, a unit of Los-Angeles-based Platinum Equity, provides similar high-tech services, specializing in transcription, dictation, electronic-signature and speech-recognition technology. The company said it has a customer base of about 325,000 physicians. MedQuist earned pro forma net income of $43.3 million on revenue of $405.3 million in 2001. -- by Michael Romano
