Two Tampa, Fla.-area hospitals owned by HCA--255-bed Brandon Regional Hospital and 112-bed South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center--sued Hillsborough County, Fla., claiming they were shortchanged by a combined total of nearly $5 million over the past seven years for indigent care. Brandon alleges the county owes it about $3.3 million, while South Bay claims an outstanding bill of about $1.5 million.
