A Bridgeport, Conn., neurologist who pleaded guilty to mail fraud not only was sentenced to an 18-month prison term--he’ll also be charged room and board while serving the sentence. Arthur Seigel, M.D., 44, once the highest-grossing neurologist in Connecticut, must pay $1,800 a month for his prison cell and $244 a month over three years of supervision once he is released, U.S. District Court in Bridgeport said. Seigel, who apologized in court for his misdeeds--a scheme that bilked insurance companies out of tens thousands of dollars for procedures that were never performed--also must pay restitution of $450,000 and a fine of $40,000. He faced a five-year term after pleading guilty in November.
