Eleven-hospital Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, signed a $200 million, 10-year contract to outsource billing and collections to EDS, Plano, Texas, starting July 1. Some 200 Baylor employees will transfer to EDS as part of the agreement. Baylor CFO Lydia Jumonville said the system hopes the unusual arrangement will allow it to make a "quantum leap" in its cash collections, which already compare favorably with industry averages. She said the contract includes financial incentives for EDS if collections improve significantly. Baylor officials also hope to reduce administrative costs and patient hassles. The contract excludes Medicaid collections because EDS contracts with the Texas Medicaid program, Jumonville said.
