David Burda, a 14-year veteran of Modern Healthcare, was named editor of the magazine, effective last week. Burda, 41, has been news editor of the magazine since December 1996. He joined Modern Healthcare as a reporter in September 1987 and covered a variety of topics, including legal affairs, the American Hospital Association and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Burda replaces Clark Bell, who became publisher of Modern Physician, a sister magazine. Neil McLaughlin, who has been acting editor since Bell's promotion Sept. 26, will continue in his previous capacity as managing editor. Reporter Barbara Kirchheimer, who covers investor-owned hospital chains, has been named acting news editor.
