New clinic planned in Tenn. National Nephrology Associates, Nashville, said earlier this month that it expects to open a 4,200-square-foot outpatient dialysis clinic in Portland, Tenn., by the end of October. The privately held company operates 69 outpatient dialysis clinics in 14 states. The new clinic will be known as National Nephrology Asso-
ciates of Portland. Nephrology Associates, a physician group practice with 17 members, all of whom are medical directors at NNA clinics in central Tennessee, will staff the clinic.
SurgiCare building again. Surgi-Care, Houston, said earlier this month that crews broke ground in Dallas on the company's fifth ambulatory surgery center. The 39,900-square-foot freestanding center is SurgiCare's second joint venture with Cirrus Health Services, Dallas. The center is scheduled to open in summer 2002.
United Surgical in Nashville deal. United Surgical Partners Inter-national, Dallas, announced earlier this month a 50-50 for-profit joint venture with 523-bed St. Thomas Health Services in Nashville to operate as many as five ambulatory surgery centers or surgical specialty hospitals in Tennessee. Physicians will be offered a chance to invest, United Surgical said. Financial details were not disclosed. Investor-owned United Surgical owns and operates 34 surgery centers and nine surgical hospitals in the U.S., Spain and the United Kingdom. St. Thomas is owned by Ascension Health, based in St. Louis.
U.S. Oncology opens 75th center. Houston-based U.S. Oncology said it opened its 75th outpatient cancer center last month in Portland, Ore., 32,000-square-foot Northwest Cancer Specialists Rose Quarter Cancer Center. The facility includes the company's eighth positron emission tomography imaging facility. PET imaging provides body scans that can detect some cancers earlier than other technologies.
