Team Health adds Sentinel. Team Health, a Knoxville, Tenn.-based provider of physician outsourcing services, has acquired Sentinel Medical Services, Tampa, Fla. Officials declined to disclose financial details of the deal. Sentinel, which provides staffing services to three urgent-care sites, will expand Team Health's presence in Florida to 79 contracts, according to the companies. Edward Schlein, M.D., Sentinel's president and founder, will continue to practice medicine while working as Team Health's medical director. Both companies provide permanent physician staffing to hospital emergency departments.
Study looks at Calif. doc market. Despite many tales of woe and hardship, California's physicians are doing pretty well, according to a study released earlier this month by the University of California-San Francisco Center for Health Professions. For one, reports that Golden State doctors are fleeing the state are exaggerated, the study found. What's more, doctors aren't shunning managed care, and they still earn a decent salary, particularly compared with the average Californian. "Although managed care may be dampening the rate of increase of physician incomes, especially for specialists, California physicians have median incomes ranging from $120,000 to $250,000," said Edward O'Neil, the center's director.
