Extendicare Health Services, the U.S. subsidiary of Ontario-based Extendicare, no longer operates any nursing homes or assisted-living facilities in Florida in an attempt to avoid high patient-liability insurance and lawsuit costs. The company has leased nine nursing homes to Tandem Health Care, which holds an option to buy the facilities for $48 million, and six facilities with a total of 585 beds to Senior Health Properties-South, which can purchase the facilities for $107 million.
