Jeffrey Immelt, president and chief executive officer of GE Medical Systems, last week was named president and chairman-elect of the corporate parent, General Electric Co., effective immediately.
Immelt, 44, will succeed John Welch, GE's chairman and CEO, when Welch retires from the Fairfield, Conn.-based corporation at the end of 2001.
Immelt has led Waukesha, Wis.-based GE Medical Systems, a $7 billion segment of GE, since 1997. GE Medical manufactures medical diagnostic equipment and technology.
Joseph Hogan, 43, succeeded Immelt as president and CEO of GE Medical. Hogan served as executive vice president and chief operating officer since June and joined GE Medical early this year as vice president of global e-business.
