About 98% of surveyed healthcare organizations employed a corporate compliance officer in 2000, up from 96% last year, according to a report from the Health Care Compliance Association, an organization of healthcare compliance officials.
The 2,500-member group released the report at its third annual convention last week in New Orleans.
This year's survey results are based on information provided by 715 healthcare organizations, including providers and payers.
The survey also found that:
* Some 71% of healthcare organizations had active compliance programs in place in 2000, up from 55% in 1999.
* Some 56% of corporate compliance officers are female, up from 48% in 1999.
* The average annual compliance budget for this year was $293,000, down from $313,000 in 1999.
* Corporate compliance officers' salaries averaged $90,000 this year, down from an average of $94,000 in 1999.
