I wanted to commend you on your Nov. 22 editorial, "A matter of life or death: Providers should lead an organ-donation education drive" (p. 28). With the challenges we already face in the area of organ donation, it is discouraging to see delays in pending legislation.
I firmly believe that healthcare executives and providers have a responsibility to promote organ donation in both their organizations and communities. In fact, the American College of Healthcare Executives has a public policy statement on the topic.
We urge healthcare executives to work to increase the supply of organs available for transplant by developing public information and education programs as well as by serving as models in their communities.
