COLUMBUS, Ohio-A five-year fund-raising campaign by 281-bed Children's Hospital has raised $102 million. The campaign, which will end in December, sought to raise $85 million for patient care, research and educational programs. "This is one of the largest independent children's hospital campaigns in the country," said Jeff Kaplan, president and chief executive officer of the Children's Hospital Foundation. The money will help the 108-year-old hospital continue its mission of providing patient care to every child, regardless of ability to pay, hospital officials said.
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio-City-owned Berger Health System has agreed to sell a 60% stake to three-hospital Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. However, a price for 75-bed Berger has yet to be determined. The deal is expected to be completed by March 2000 at the earliest. Proceeds of the sale would go to a foundation to fund local healthcare needs, and Berger would be transferred to a new not-for profit corporation co-owned by the foundation and Mount Carmel, which would share governance equally. Mount Carmel would negotiate managed-care contracts. Mount Carmel has provided pharmacy management, social services, marketing assistance, ethics programming, interim financial management and materials management assistance to Berger since 1996.
