A tiny hospital in Westbrook, Maine, has merged with a nearby facility to become part of a larger Roman Catholic healthcare system.
The merger of 22-bed Westbrook Community Hospital into 159-bed Mercy Hospital of Portland, Maine, was effective Sept. 1. Mercy is part of 31-hospital Catholic Health East, based in Newtown Square, Pa.
By next year, Mercy plans to consolidate and expand its inpatient and outpatient addiction and behavioral health programs at the Westbrook campus, said Marjorie Stone, vice president of planning at Mercy. The Westbrook hospital will continue to maintain ambulatory services.
