Tenet Healthcare Corp. has a buyer for the first of 20 hospitals that the Santa Barbara, Calif.-based hospital chain is trying to sell by year's end.
The University of Missouri said Friday that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Tenet's Columbia (Mo.) Regional Hospital, in a deal expected to close within 45 days. The purchase price for the 265-bed hospital has not yet been released, but funds to purchase the hospital are to come from revenue bonds that have already been sold and have been earmarked for capital improvements, according to a University of Missouri release. The 356-bed state-owned University Hospitals and Clinics is the largest hospital in Columbia.
The only other acute-care hospital in Columbia, 313-bed Boone Hospital Center, was also said to be a potential suitor for the Tenet hospital, although Tenet spokesman Harry Anderson declined to discuss other bids for the facility.
