Secretary of Veterans Affairs Togo West is on the verge of leaving office because of criticism from veterans and questions about inappropriate travel expenses, according to published reports.
The VA denies the reports, which were published in the Los Angeles Times and Washington Post, saying he has neither submitted his resignation nor been asked to do so. The VA said West will continue to work on development of the VA's 2000 and 2001 budgets.
If West left, his departure would follow the resignation of Health Undersecretary Kenneth Kizer, M.D., whose term expired last week.
