Shouting "Hey, Hey, AHA, how many people did you kill today?" the Service Employees International Union marched on the Washington headquarters of the American Hospital Association on May 24 to protest the AHA's policy on needlestick legislation. The AHA opposes a bill that would require healthcare providers to use special retracting needles. The SEIU says more than 1 million healthcare workers are stuck with needles every year, causing about 1,000 of them to contract HIV or hepatitis. The SEIU said about 300 people demonstrated, but the AHA said the number was closer to 50 or 75.
