I read with interest your article on the Sisters of Mercy Health System-St. Louis leadership transition ("Sisters of Mercy chief to step down," April 5, p. 3). The headline did a disservice to the story and more accurately should have been "Sisters of Mercy chief to step up." Sister Mary Roch Rocklage, who resigned as chief executive officer, is going to be a full-time chairwoman.
Sister Rocklage and I have talked several times this past year about our respective efforts at management transition and succession planning. She has done a splendid job of succession planning. There are too few examples of good succession planning in healthcare, and your publication should recognize and applaud good work when it occurs.
