I agree with most of the article about electronic prescribing written by W.A. Weronka (see February, page 58). Unfortunately, the author did not research the subject thoroughly enough, or he would have discovered that ProxyMed has been the leader in electronic prescribing technology since 1993. We have formulary databases in our electronic prescription writing software, and have for five years now. Brian Stuhlmuller, president of MediMedia InfoScan, was quoted as saying 1998 was the first year prescriptions were prescribed electronically. This is an incorrect statement. ProxyMed's technology also allows the physician to check for drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug-disease and duplicate therapy interactions.
