In the waning days of campaign 1998, provider groups are throwing thousands of dollars at their congressional allies in tight races to help those allies purchase advertising time.
The American Hospital Association has purchased $20,000 in radio advertising for Rep. Jim Nussle (R-Iowa), who is running against Democrat Rob Tully, and $30,000 for radio ads for Rep. Charles Stenholm (D-Texas), who is running against Republican Rudy Izzard, said Richard Pollack, the AHA's executive vice president for government and public affairs
Nussle and Stenholm are in tight races.
Nussle is on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has authority over Medicare. Stenholm, like other candidates the AHA supports, shares the AHA philosophy, Pollack said.
