BJC Health System in St. Louis and its affiliated physicians have joined together in a "super PHO" to create one-stop provider shopping for managed-care companies.
The new venture, called the Joint Contracting Co., will simultaneously deliver Washington University Physicians Network, BJC Health System and Gateway Physician Network in a single contract.
Altogether, that includes 1,800 physicians, 13 hospitals, six nursing homes and 100 ambulatory-care centers in Missouri and southern Illinois. BJC owns 50% of the company; the physicians own the other half.
"Insurers will recognize that the strength of the new organization lies in its ability to offer single-signature contracting with a large number of physicians and facilities," said Samuel Nussbaum, M.D., BJC's executive vice president of medical affairs and system integration.
The JCC is designed to actively pursue global risk contracts and provide primary and specialty care at a set cost per covered life.
Administrative services for the JCC will be provided by Health Management Partners, a new management services organization created by BJC and Washington University School of Medicine.
