The American Hospital Association and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging have signed an agreement to jointly work on public policy development, data and information management, and clinical quality issues, MODERN HEALTHCARE has learned.
The cooperative agreement stems from the legislative and regulatory work the two organizations have done together on such issues as Medicare provider-sponsored organizations.
Sources said the cooperation between the two organizations will become more important as hospitals and nursing homes develop networks covering a full continuum of care.
The two organizations also are working together to provide members a preview of how the new Medicare skilled-nursing prospective payment system will affect their finances.
The Chicago-based AHA and the Washington-based AAHSA, which represents exclusively not-for-profit nursing homes, have about 5,000 members each.
