The April 13 Outliers (p. 48) column mentioned MODERN HEALTHCARE's frustration with the press policies at the Federation of American Health Systems' recent annual meeting in Washington. We have had good relations with your reporters in the past, and we regret any inconvenience that was caused.
We attempted to ensure access during the meeting, but obviously we weren't totally successful. Some of our speakers were concerned that press attendance would stifle interaction between panelists and attendees, which resulted in the somewhat restricted press policy. The federation's future policy will be to open these workshops to press and let the speakers know journalists may be present.
I hope you'll join us again next year in Orlando, Fla. I'll try to ensure that no Mickey Mouse press policies are in effect.
