Wickenburg (Ariz.) Regional Hospital signed a 10-year lease last week with Lutheran Health Systems. Beginning May 1, Lutheran will operate the 80-bed community hospital.
Specific financial terms were not disclosed, but a Lutheran official said payments will be based on calculations that include projected depreciation and hospital performance.
Lutheran, based in Fargo, N.D., is a not-for-profit healthcare system that owns, leases or manages 28 hospitals and 29 nursing homes in rural communities throughout 14 states.
"If we were not partnered in some way with a larger system, it would be difficult to survive in a larger market," said Carol Schmoyer, Wickenburg's chief executive officer.
