Lawrence Cirka resigned last week as president of Owings Mills, Md.-based Integrated Health Services.
The company said Cirka, 46, planned to pursue other interests.
The company's board gave Cirka's title to IHS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Elkins, M.D.
IHS has 2,000 post-acute locations in 47 states and annual revenues of about $3.3 billion.
The post-acute company, which wants to buy Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp.'s home-care business, lost $33.4 million last year. It blamed the loss largely on the costs of acquiring other companies (March 9, p. 28).
