I am writing to point out an omission in the recent article "A voluminous year" (Jan 19, p. 40). The article included a table listing the top 10 new tax-exempt healthcare issues for the fourth quarter of 1997. Missing from that list is a $145.8 million tax-exempt issue for Baltimore-based Helix Health, dated Dec. 12. Shattuck Hammond Partners was the senior underwriter. It should have appeared as the eighth-largest on the top-10 list.
We, our client and officials at the Maryland Health and Higher Educational Facilities Authority were surprised by the absence of the issue on the list. We called Securities Data Co., which provided the information for the list, and learned that the issue was omitted because the firm had inadvertently miscoded it as a nursing home issue, rather than a hospital issue.
