Woburn (Mass.) Pediatric Associates, with eight physicians, signed a long-term affiliation agreement with Bloomfield, Conn.-based Kelson Physician Partners.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Pediatrix Medical Group acquired Southern Colorado Neonatology Associates, whose three physicians provide services to neonatal intensive-care units at Memorial Hospital and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs, Colo.
An alliance was formed by three northern New Jersey IPAs affiliated with Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Meridian Health Care Management. The IPAs, with a total of about 1,200 physicians, are Mid-Atlantic Primary Physicians, Essex County Health Organization and Union County Physicians Network.
Birmingham, Ala.-based Strategic Medical signed a management agreement with the Nacogdoches (Texas) Area Physicians Association, an IPA with 91 physicians, and Corpus Christi (Texas) Network of Physicians, an IPA with 226 physicians.
Fort Worth, Texas-based ProMedCo Management Co. affiliated with 24-physician Intercoastal Medical Group in Sarasota, Fla.
ProMedCo affiliated with 14-physician Beacon Medical Group in Harrisburg, Pa., and signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Cowley Medical Associates, a 23-physician multispecialty group also in Harrisburg. Beacon and Cowley will merge as a result of the transactions. As part of the Beacon transaction, ProMedCo entered a long-term global capitation agreement with Beacon's previous owner, HealthAmerica, a subsidiary of Coventry Corp., to cover about 12,000 health plan enrollees.
ProMedCo entered a long-term management agreement with Christie Clinic Association, a group of 87 physicians with five sites in eastern and central Illinois. Christie will retain its 50% ownership of PersonalCare Health Management, an HMO.
Detroit-based St. John Health System purchased the assets of 10 family and pediatric practices and entered a 20-year management agreement with their 37 physicians, who merged into a single practice called CornerStone Health Services. The total purchase price for the assets of the metropolitan-area practices was more than $7 million.
Nashville-based PhyCor completed its affiliation with 40-physician Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Medical Clinic and reached an agreement in principle to affiliate with West Florida Medical Center Clinic, Pensacola, which has 150 physicians.
MedPartners signed a 10-year global capitation agreement with Los Angeles-based Maxicare Health Plans that ensures availability of MedPartners' physicians to the company's approximately 250,000 California HMO enrollees. The deal also facilitates expansion of Maxicare product lines into central and northern California.
